Fortunately, it’s too thin to completely hide them from the rest of the world.

Short Biography
Shin was born and raised in Mulerin as Kato Takanori. His father, Kato Ryoma, was a doll-maker, while his mother, Suzuki Nanako specialized in kimonos. Being their last child and only son, much more was expected from him than his older sisters. Still, he developed a great interest in doll-crafting rather than weaponry or war, so instead of sending him away to train as a Samurai, Ryoma decided to bring him up as a doll-maker.
By the age of thirteen, Shin’s crafting skills were so good that he didn’t need his father’s guidance whenever he started to craft a doll anymore. With his quick hands, his father’s business sold faster and better, and even delivery services were being booked for.
However, that only lasted for four years. When Shin was seventeen, a rich merchant went to his home to sell some materials for Ryoma and Nanako to use- Ryoma for the dolls’ clothing, Nanako for actual kimonos. However, Ryoma said that the price was too high, stirring up an argument between the two men. In the end, they refused to buy a single thing, causing the merchant to angrily leave, though not forgetting to spit on Ryoma’s leg before doing so.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t it. Turns out that the merchant was so mad, he just had to do something terrible to the family. So he waited until nightfall, before successfully cornering Shin in a dark alleyway. Out of rage and fury, the merchant forced his clothes off him, then branded him with a piece of iron on the side of his inner thigh. Not even waiting for the mark to cool down, he began raping him, obviously blind to the fact that the boy beneath him was screaming his lungs out. Fortunately, a late-night stroller heard his cries for help and stabbed the merchant twice with a cooking knife, immediately killing him. Shin was quickly brought home afterwards, with the stroller explaining what happened to his family.
Soon after, Shin developed a series of psychological and even physical disorders, including Nausea and Bipolar Disorder, as well as Major Depressive Disorder. Although he was reassured that it was not his fault for being raped, he still couldn’t stop blaming himself, that he had somehow seduced the merchant. He then changed into a whole different person- he paced in circles in his room, suddenly pulled off his clothing before putting them back on, lost a huge amount of weight… in fact, he was so depressed that he nearly killed himself, and would have if it weren’t for his sisters stopping him from stabbing himself in time.
Somehow the fact that he had been sexually assaulted managed to leak its way out of the house. It spread like wildfire among the neighbors, causing them to either stare or even glower at Shin’s way every time he went out. After only three days of this, he couldn’t take the humiliation any longer, and so ran away in the dead of night, changing his name from Kato Takanori to Takiyama Shin.
Personality
Shin can be described as a frail ice sculpture. His self-esteem is abnormally low, along with a sense of helplessness, hopelessness, worthlessness, and shame. He’s rarely ever happy, as the tiniest of things can easily ruin his mood, thanks to being Bipolar. Not only that, but he’s also afraid of a lot of things, such as thunderstorms, lightning, crowds, and even people- he isolates himself from them, usually by keeping his mouth closed whenever someone tries to converse with him, and if that doesn’t work, he’ll simply bow and walk away. When a thunderstorm or nightmare occurs, however, he starts to panic. Since he literally has no companion to comfort him, he’ll take matters into his own hands and calm himself down by means of self-harm (usually biting his fingers until they bleed, an act from Psychomotor Agitation), screaming out all his emotional pains, or curling into a ball before crying into his arms.
On the flip side, although he hates socializing, Shin is by no means uncaring or cold. In fact, he’s the direct antipode- he does care, but he’s just always too scared to do anything. Plus, if he’s asked to do something, he’ll do it, unless if he somehow feels that the requester is a threat to him. If a child looks his way, he’ll smile gently at him/her, though still keeping a distance.
Sample Roleplay
A crowd. Oh god, could this day get any worse? First it was raining, and now Shin found himself in the midst of a sea of humans. He could feel it all in his stomach- the bumps, the pushes, the accidental- or were they on purpose?- shoves- all in his way. What was going on? Was there some festival, some celebration that he did not know about? Or perhaps a famous Samurai was staying over in this small town. Either way, whether it was a special event or not, he had to get out of there fast.
See, this was why he hated being a wanderer- he was never able to catch up on the latest news, and knew he would not for the next ten years of his life… if he was even going to live that long, that is. Even if he did, why should he? There was nothing for him to live for- no friend, no lover, no fortune, nothing. There was only himself and his traveling box of dolls, clothes, crafting tools, and a tiny bit of money.
Speaking of which, he really needed to settle down right now. He was short on money, and because of that, he was short on food too. If he didn’t find any children at the moment, he might as well die from poverty, or at least beg on the streets until hunger finally decides to strike his heart. Long story short, he had to sell at least three dolls by the end of the day, or else.
After what seemed like a whole hour of walking, he ultimately found his target- a group of girls by a small tree, happily singing songs whilst clapping their hands together. There were only five of them, and they all looked around the age of six- the perfect age for dolls. Halting to a stop, he watched them for a while. God, how they reminded him of his sisters- their jet-black hair thick with volume, their eyes sparkling with endless joy, their laugh ringing through the air like the bells hanging from his mother’s neck…
…No, stop. He must not think of such things. He wasn’t part of the Kato family anymore- he was Takiyama Shin, not Kato Takanori. There was no way he could just turn back and return to Mulerin, much less expect a warm, heart-melting welcome from his parents…
“Excuse me?”
His thoughts were instantly shattered. Snapping back into reality, he looked down to see the girls all looking back at him. Forcing his lips into a gentle smile, he set his box down, before opening it to reveal three newly-made dolls. Still keeping his mouth closed, he took one up and held it out to them.
“Is this for sale?”
With his smile widening, he nodded enthusiastically. The girls looked rich, and rich people could pay for anything they wanted, right? Well, if he could somehow act all nice and shy, then maybe they could agree to a high price- he was going to hit the jackpot.
