Short Biography: The only girl of the Yamashita family, Kimiko knows how to hold her own in a household of overactive boys. As a child, she grew up with her brothers as playmates and thus she has taken on a bit of a tomboy persona. Her mother, in an attempt to control Kimiko’s wild side, began to train her only daughter in the art of Yumi. Kimiko was completely focused on her study and as her and her older brothers began to focus on their respective training, the prank rampage through the house began to fade.
When she was nine years old, Kimiko started to help her father around the small horse training farm he had started after he had retired from his samurai work. Her brothers all knew how to ride and Kimiko refused to be left out. Her father taught her how to ride and then noticed that she had a natural knack with the horses. When she was fifteen, Kimiko’s father gave his only daughter the responsibility of training the horses.
Kimiko is responsible for choosing and training each of her older brothers’ horses. She has also taught her younger brother how to ride and he often likes to trail after her as she tends to the horses and sit on the sidelines when she practices archery.
Her fame for turning out incredibly well trained horses that have an ability to fight for their riders has earned her fame. Her uncanny knack to connect with any horse also means that many people bring problem horses to her for her to train. Her fame is slowly growing although she has yet to leave her home in the Ando territory. Her curiosity is starting to get the better of her, however.
Personality: A little brash and blunt, Kimiko is a clever girl who has no patience for diplomacy or feigned politeness. She is honest and a bit sarcastic with a sense of humor that often gets her into trouble. Although she appears both mature and confident, she is not above rigging a water bucket above her brother’s bedchamber door. Impatient and quick tempered, Kimiko exhibits only true patience and understanding with animals and often finds meeting new people and befriending them difficult. She has a love of life and is usually very cheerful and optimistic.
Sample Roleplay
Ryu please… Kimiko scolded as she tightened the cinch on her favorite mare. You’re going to annoy Ayame. Her chestnut mare tossed her head in agreement as Ryu spun in circles at Kimiko’s feet. Kimiko gave a sigh although she was amused by her animals’ antics.
Easily, she swung herself into the saddle and trotted off. Ayame, eager to get going, tugged at the reins and picked up her pace. Kimiko obliged her, settling her mare in a brisk walk to allow her puppy to keep up with her. When they got to the practice arena however, Kimiko made a gesture at her puppy, commanding him to stay. He sat, wriggled, but stayed where he was as she urged Ayame into a canter, circling the ring before starting to put her mare through her paces.
A voice broke her from her concentration as she pulled her mare to a halt. Her eldest brother was leaning against the fence carrying Ryu under one arm. Hito! Kimiko cried joyfully, easing off her mare and jumping into her brother’s arms at a run. Ryu yapped in protest.
Kimi. He said calmly, though his eyes portrayed his own pleasure at seeing his younger sister and partner in crime. I see that Chibi here hasn’t gotten stepped on yet. Kimiko grinned at the nickname for her dog. He was a shih tzu from China and was oblivious of his size which cause Hitoshi to dub him Samurai Chibi.
It’s good to have you home. Kimiko said. And it was. Her eldest brother was rarely ever home and when he was, the entire family relished in the little moments.
